Lee Roy Selmon's story is a mix of football scholarships for his family and service in the local community. First, the Selmon family. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. The family raised nine kids on an Eufala farm. The Selmons were also among the three siblings that represented Oklahoma in football. All three brothers were All-Americans. In 1973, Lucious Jr. Dewey and Lee Roy were starters. Lee Roy was named the most offensive lineman in the nation by the Outland and Lombardi Awards. The three years he was a starter Oklahoma was 32-1-1 and also won two championships at the national level. He was awarded a third scholarship in 1975 and named as a National Football Foundation Student-Athlete. Selmon received a bachelor's diploma from the University of California at Berkeley. Lee Roy dedicated ten volunteer time per week throughout college. After graduating Lee Roy moved to Tampa which is where he played for nine years playing for the Buccaneers. Three times, he was selected All-Pro. He began his business career. The year 1988 was the first time he was working as an Account Relation Manager in the First Florida Bank in Tampa. He was employed by the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute as well as the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce recognized Lee Roy as being among Ten of America's top young men. While a student Lee Roy was 6-2 and weighs a little over 256 lbs. He captained his college team in the year 1975. In 1993, he was appointed the assistant director of Athletics at the University of South Florida. In 1988, he was voted into the College Football Hall of Fame. In addition, he was inducted into an appearance in the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 gave its Distinguished American Award to his parents, Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor who presented this award.
