Anita Sarkeesian has been a Canadian and American feminist media critic for over 20 years. She is also an accomplished public speaking. She's determined to dismantle stereotypes of women as they appear in popular culture. Furthermore, she works to raise the awareness of harassment on social media targeted at women, and other those who are marginalized. Sarkeesian has a degree in political thought and social theory at York University. She is also an internationally acclaimed public presenter. Sarkeesian has given speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO Festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group. Since her early years, Sarkeesian was fascinated by issues of gender identity and feminist thinking. When she was still in school, in 2009 she started her Feminist Frequency website. In 2009, the ebullient young lady was harassed by the Internet for starting a web series on gender in videogames. The incident did not deter her, rather it strengthened her determination as a feminist critic of media. Sarkeesian has been awarded numerous awards in recognition of her many notable contributions to the field of feministism.
