
Julie London (nee Peck, September 26, 1926 - October 18th in 2000) is an American actress and a singer. Her career spans more than 40 years. A torch performer renowned for her sultry, languid contralto singing, London recorded over thirty albums of pop and jazz standards between 1955 between 1955 and 1969. The album she released as her debut "Cry Me a River" that she recorded and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. London was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for 1974 for her role in Emergency! as nurse Dixie McCall. Born in Santa Rosa, California, to vaudevillian parents, London was discovered while working as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles, and she started her acting career. London's 35 year acting career began in the film industry in 1944. It featured roles as the female lead in a variety of westerns. In the mid-50s she signed a recording contract with Liberty Records. This was the beginning of her professional career. In 1969, she released her last studio album. However she was part of the Emergency series as Dixie McCall, a female nurse. (1972-1979), she starred alongside her husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb, her ex-husband who produced the show.
